High Wycombe grandmother wins lotto after playing same numbers for 31 years

A Perth grandmother has won a massive $874,000 in Saturday’s Lotto draw after playing with the same numbers for 31 years.

The woman, from High Wycombe in Perth’s east, took out the Division One prize pool - as well as an extra $7000 from lower divisions - in this weekend’s Saturday Lotto draw.

Speaking to Lotterywest after cashing in her System 7 ticket, the grandmother revealed the life-changing win came just a week after accidentally breaking her 31-year loyalty to her numbers.

“A couple of weeks ago I marked one of my numbers wrong, so if I had done that this week it would have been heartache,” she said.

Fortunately, when she bought the winning ticket from High Wycombe News and Lotteries, she entered her usual numbers.

The grandmother plans to spend her newfound fortune on a new house in the Perth Hills and set up a trust fund for her grandchildren, two of whom had paid her a surprise visit from the east coast just one day before her big win.

“I already felt like I was on a winning streak,” she said.

The Division One win marks the forth WA player to take home the top prize for 2020, Lotterywest Spokesperson Jennie Fitzhardinge said.

There were five Division One winners across Australia in Saturday’s draw, with a second WA winning ticket sold at Carramar Lottery Centre and News in Morley.
