One person became $30 million richer at the weekend after winning Lotto Powerball.
The winning ticket was brought from Richmond Superette in Taupo and despite not being sold in the Bay, owner Jessica Lin said she'd had a couple of people from Hawke's Bay buy a Lotto ticket from their store towards the end of the week.
"They came in and said they were here from Hawke's Bay but we have had a lot of locals and our regulars buying tickets as well so I think it will most likely be someone local who has won."
Ms Lin said it was very exciting knowing that her store had sold the winning ticket, which she said yesterday had not yet been claimed.
"We have had a lot of customers come through today checking and hoping they are the lucky winners. It is all very exciting for us and I am happy for whoever the winner is."
This was the first big winning Lotto ticket the store had sold and Ms Lin hoped their luck would continue and they would be known as a lucky store.
The total prize of $30.25 million is made up of $30 million from Powerball First Division and $250,000 from Lotto First Division. This was the fourth biggest win in Lotto Powerball history.
The numbers from Saturday night's draw were 37, 3, 24, 20, 9, 15 with the bonus ball being 16 and the Powerball 1.
Three other Lotto players from Whangarei, Auckland, and Christchurch also won $250,000 with Lotto First Division.
