Winner of His Majesty’s birth anniversary celebration lottery, Shacha Dema , who got a power tiller, credited the win to her year-old daughter.

Thousands gathered at the Changlimithang stadium to celebrate the 38th birth anniversary of His Majesty The King yesterday.

Twenty-five prizes, including two power tillers, washing machine, laptops, and mobile phones were given away to the audience.

Shacha Dema said that she arrived at the entrance of the stadium at 5am.

“At the entrance, a lottery ticket was handed to my daughter,” said Shacha Dema from Pemagatshel.

Nya-goe competition and the tug of war between DeSups and the body builders livened the atmosphere by afternoon.

Competitors from Sarpang, Thimphu, Mongar, Trongsa, and Bumthang participated for the country’s strongest man title.

Sonam Tenzin from Trongsa bagged the nya-goe title. This was Trongsa’s third win.

Cash prize of Nu 300,000 and Nu 200,000 was given to competitors from Trongsa and Bumthang respectively. Passang Dorji represented Bumthang at the competition.

Sonam Tenzin said the competition was tough.

Mongar’s champion, Lobzang Kinga, was the second runners-up, followed by representative from Thimphu and Sarpang.  Cash prize of Nu 100,000, Nu 50,000 and Nu 30,000 in this order were given to them.

DeSuups won the tug of war competition.

Students from Thimphu performed cultural items. Students of Dechencholing Higher Secondary School performed Wang Zhey dance. The dance is performed wearing a kilt over the gho and a ring on the head.

Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay joined the celebration.
