Crime Stop tip led to Collymore's arrest, 19 others

Crime Stop Jamaica is reporting that the arrest of businessman Omar 'Best' Collymore was the result of a tip it received through its 311 hotline.

Collymore was arrested at a guest house in St Elizabeth preparing to flee the island by boat.

He and a co-accused have since been charged with the  January 2 murder of his wife Simone Campbell Collymore and taxi operator Winston Walters.

Crime Stop says 19 other arrests were made through tips received for a variety of crimes, including shooting with intent, lotto scamming, housebreaking and illegal possession of firearm.

It says since the start of the year, it has received 206 tips, 186 of which were actionable pieces of information.

Crime Stop also reported that during the first two months, 10 illegal firearms were taken off the streets along with 58 rounds of ammunition.

Seven persons were arrested in connection with some of the illegal firearms.
