Liverpool star Sadio Mane was to the fore as Senegal secured a place in the last-16 with a 3-0 victory over Kenya of the Africa Nations Cup on Monday night.

After missing his side's opening game of the tournament against Tanzania - a 2-0 win - through suspension, Mane had returned to the team in their disappointing 1-0 defeat to Algeria in Cairo last time out.

And with the pressure on against the Kenyans, it looked as though there were going to be further dismay for the Lions of Teranga when Mane saw his first half penalty saved by Patrick Matasi.

Mane - who shared the Premier League Golden Boot with Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah and Arsenal's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang last season - then picked up a booking on the hour mark as his frustrations got the better of him, but Senegal then ran away with the game in the final half hour.

Ismaila Sarr gave Aliou Cisse's side the lead shortly after that Mane booking, and then the star man doubled the lead when he raced clear and slotted past Matasi.

Mane then made amends for his earlier miss by scoring from the penalty spot after Philemon Otieno was sent off for a second bookable offence.

With Algeria beating Tanzania in the night's other game, Senegal qualify from Group C in second place and will face Uganda back in Cairo on Friday.

Meanwhile, Mane's Liverpool teammate Naby Keita has returned to Merseyside after aggravating groin and thigh injuries during his appearances for Guinea at the tournament.

Liverpool had initially claimed that the midfielder wasn't fit enough to travel to Egypt after picking up an injury in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona which ended his season, but Guinea insisted that he was fit enough to play.
